I am a resident alien. I came here to experience the joys of this world, and even though I am different, I participate, I engage, and I find unexpected belonging. My art is a reminder that it's okay to come from somewhere else and that it's on all of us to welcome those who do.
My pink alien is a symbol for immigrants. I arrived in this country at eight months old and remain, in the eyes of the law, a resident alien—a permanent resident with no say in how I got here. I carry a quiet anxiety about being perceived as less-than, about the ways difference is so often read as deficiency rather than gift. But the pink alien pushes back against that. It brings joy to everyone, especially immigrants, while gently asking people to re-examine how they see outsiders. At its core, it's an argument for inclusivity, participation, and self-expression.
